Claude

A question, a heavy file or a multi-step task all fit in the same conversation: Claude reasons at length, hands back the finished deliverable and picks the project context back up in the next session.

Overview

A 200-page contract, a messy spreadsheet and a chapter to revise before an exam all get handled in the same conversation. Claude answers in text but also hands back the finished object: a report, a table or a web page appears in a panel next to the chat and can be reworked on request. Cowork, included in the paid plans, takes on multi-step tasks: it reads and writes local files through the desktop app, and the session keeps running on Anthropic's servers once the laptop is closed. Memory and projects hold the context of ongoing work, so nothing has to be explained twice. Web search and connectors pull information from documents, inboxes and connected apps instead of copy-paste. Among AI chatbots and assistants, Claude's angle is how much sits under one roof: the same agentic architecture drives the chat, Cowork and the terminal, and Anthropic publishes the documents that govern how its models behave.

Key features

  • Model selection to match the task, from Haiku up to Fable 5 for days-long agentic work, with extended thinking and adjustable effort.
  • Artifacts show documents, visuals and web pages in an editable panel beside the conversation.
  • File creation with code execution, through to a downloadable document, spreadsheet or deck.
  • Projects and memory that keep instructions, reference documents and context from one chat to the next.
  • Web search and Research mode, which assembles a sourced answer from many pages read in one go.
  • Connectors and Skills, linking Claude to work apps and teaching it reusable in-house procedures.

Best use cases

  • A student has a chapter explained at their level, then gets quizzed on it before the exam.
  • A freelancer turns meeting notes into a client proposal ready to send.
  • A developer hands Claude Code a bug fix or a module rewrite straight from the terminal.
  • An analyst drops in a spreadsheet and leaves with the charts and the summary to present.
  • A team keeps its reference documents in a shared project so every exchange starts from the same context.
  • A company rolls out Claude with single sign-on and audit logs to govern how staff use AI.

Pros

  • Claude's Constitution, published by Anthropic, guides model behaviour, while the separate Responsible Scaling Policy sets capability thresholds and required safeguards.
  • One paid subscription covers the chat, the Claude Code terminal agent and the Cowork workspace.
  • Connectors run on MCP, an open protocol released by Anthropic and adopted well beyond Claude.
  • On Team and Enterprise plans, content is not used to train the models by default.
  • The free plan has no time limit and still includes web search, memory and connectors.
